New Zealand's Sega Mega Drive collection

One kid with a Sega 1000 in 1986. Nearly forty years and 1,600+ cartridges later — still counting.

It started in 1986, the year the Sega 1000 landed in New Zealand. Most kids played a few games and moved on when the next console showed up. This one didn't move on — the Sega Mega Drive that followed only made it worse.

One game became ten. Ten became a hundred. Somewhere along the way "collecting" turned into a genuine lifelong obsession — chasing down carts at markets, trade nights, and eventually online, long after most people had packed their consoles into the garage for good.

The collection now sits at over 1,600 Mega Drive games — the largest known Sega Mega Drive collection in New Zealand. @gamertuku on Instagram has been documenting it for the last 10 years, if you want to see more than what's listed here.
